When planning a newborn photography session there is a lot to consider! You know that you want beautiful images of you new baby but did you know that there are a few simple things you can do that will add value to your session?! Here are three ways you can add value to your session straight from a newborn photographer herself:
Chose a Photographer that Specializes in Newborns
This is so important. There are many talented photographers out there who might not specialize in newborn portraits, and could still create beautiful images for you. However, they may not know all the ins and outs of newborn safety. By choosing a newborn photographer who specializes in the arts, they are far more likely to have taken courses on newborn safety. They will also have all the props, wraps, and other equipment needed for your session. If you are not sure if a photographer has specific training, it’s more than ok to ask, too! After all, you want to make sure that they’re as good of a fit for you as you are for them.
Family Keepsakes
Do you have a special family keepsake that has been in your family for generations? Or maybe a teddy bear that was yours as a baby? Maybe even a special outfit that was knitted by grandma? These kinds of items are great to bring along to your newborn session. While most newborn photographers will have all the props you need, bringing your own item or two is a great way to give your portraits a unique and personal touch. The amount of sentimental value these special items bring are priceless!!
Baby’s First Family Portraits
During your newborn portrait session is a perfect time to get updated family portraits with baby! Newborns grow so quickly that odds are if you wait for the holidays or a later time, you will miss that window of opportunity to have pictures as a family with baby still so tiny in mom and dads arms.
By simply prioritizing these three things you can add so much more value to your portrait session. As a newborn photographer myself, I truly believe that these things are so important. Not every client is the right fit for every photographer and visa versa. Make sure you take a moment to talk with your photographer before hand. Brining special items and making sure that you get a few shots with mom and dad are also just as important!!
