Understanding Your Maternity Session: FAQ

Maternity portrait session with husband and wife.

Motherhood by Christina Katelyn Photography

There are lots of questions you may have about your maternity session and what to expect. In this blog post, I will answer a few of my most asked questions! It is my goal to have my amazing clients feel prepared and empowered during their session. The type of portraits that I specialize in are such a big part of each of my clients lives. There’s no small feat about getting ready to welcome a new baby into this world!

Can you explain the pricing to me? How does it work?

At the time of booking your session, you will be required to pay at least 50% of the session fee. This locks your session date and time into my calendar and no one else can book that day or time. By requiring a 50% retainer upfront, this lets me know that you are serious and reduces the risk of having no call no shows. This is important not only for my sake, but for other potential clients who may have also wanted to book on that date and time.

The day of your maternity session, the reaming balance will be due. You will receive an email reminder with the link to be able to quickly take care of that balance at your own convenience. This will allow me to send your finished gallery as soon as it is ready. From there you will be able to immediately download your included images. Yo will also have the option to purchase additional digital images, prints, albums, and more straight from your gallery! If you have questions about how to navigate your gallery, check out: “HOW TO CHOOSE AND DOWNLOAD YOUR DIGITAL IMAGES”.

How do the client closet “rental” gowns work? Can I bring my own?

Each session includes two gowns that you can wear for your maternity session from my collection. This is a great option to have available so that you don’t have to spend a large amount of money on a dress that you will only wear once! I have invested in a variety of sizes and most if not all, my gowns can be altered to fit a variety of sizes big and small. To see my top three most requested maternity gowns, check out: “CLIENT CLOSET: MATERNITY GOWNS

If you already have a specific look you want to create and I don’t have any gowns that fit into what you are looking for, then bringing your own will be your best option. You can even mix and match by wearing gone of my gowns and an outfit of your own. If time allows, sometimes getting a third outfit in the mix is a great choice too!

Can my spouse and children be in the photos?

Absolutely!! Each maternity session is planned with enough time to allow family portraits that showcase the whole family before baby is born. When you book a newborn session, “Baby’s First Family Portraits” are also included. This is an important aspect to me and I truly believe it is for all of my clients as well.

I hope that you found this blog post helpful when it comes to planning your maternity session. Portraits should be a fun and enjoyable experience.
